Frush, Shoemaker Applaud End To Email Voting
WARSAW — Warsaw City Councilmen Ron Shoemaker and Jerry Frush are applauding the end of the city’s practice of email voting with the Warsaw Board of Public Works.
In a prepared statement, Frush and Shoemaker stated they “would like to commend Mayor Thallemer for his decision … The decision was absolutely necessary and laudable.”
The councilmen further stated “the impulse that led the administration to begin the practice of email voting is explainable. It was a quick, hassle-free and convenient way for public officials to do business. However, our system of government is not designed for the convenience of public officials. It is designed for the convenience of the citizens.
“It is designed so that the citizens can be robustly informed about our decisions and our decision-making process; so that they can have a full and meaningful say in our deliberations; and so that they can, when necessary, hold us to account. Any advantage that may have been gained by casting votes outside the public eye is far outweighed by the interest of the citizens of Warsaw in an open, transparent and accountable government.”
