Wawasee Sports Wrap: Aug. 24
Boys Tennis
Wawasee earned another road win, beating West Noble 4-1 Thursday afternoon in Ligonier.
Dylan Staley was solid at one singles for the Warriors, beating Marcus Weimer two and love. Graham Perek got the other singles win for the visitors with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 result against Isaac Weimer.
Both doubles teams came through for Wawasee, the pairing of Brady Robinson and Jake Cowan at one taking a two and one decision against Andrew Shaw and Dillon Sumowski while Evan Richey and Zach Leedy took a three and one court over Caleb Thompson and Andrew Tom.
West Noble’s lone court came at three singles, where Brock Bohde withstood Jacob Krugman 7-5, 6-1.
On the JV courts, Collin Rhoades of Wawasee beat Logan Jacobs 7-5 while Jacobs came back to beat Clayton Firestone 6-3.
Wawasee (2-3) will visit Whitko next Tuesday.
Volleyball
It just wasn’t Wawasee’s night on the varsity court against Bethany Christian in a 3-0 loss.
Bethany jumped all over the hosts in game one, 25-10, then continued it with a 25-18, 25-13 closer to end a frustrating night for the Lady Warriors.
Stats were not provided from the varsity match.
In the JV contest, Wawasee rallied to pick up a 2-1 win over the Bruins. Wawasee claimed game one, 25-18, then saw Bethany rally for a 25-24 game two score. In the rubber match, Wawasee emerged with a 15-5 winner.
Kenzie Click had three kills and two aces, Ava Rush added three kills, Kiaundra Olson had three aces, Molly Jones two blocks and Ella Williamson assisted on 17 points for the Lady Warriors, which move to 7-2 overall.
Wawasee (1-4) will next take part in Saturday’s Westview Invite.
Girls Soccer
Bethany Christian also dealt Wawasee a loss on the soccer pitch, beating the Lady Warriors 2-0 in Waterford Mills.
Caroline Cartmel was credited with both goals for the Bruins.
Wawasee (1-4) will visit Concord on Saturday in its Northern Lakes Conference opener.
Football
The freshman football team from Wawasee suffered a 14-0 loss to Huntington North in Syracuse.
Stats were not provided from the game.
The freshmen (1-1) will play again next week at DeKalb.
