Valley Sports Wrap: Aug. 22
Boys Soccer
Valley’s boys soccer team suffered a 7-1 setback to Wabash on the road Tuesday.
The Vikings fell behind 3-0 at the half on the way to the loss.
Fabian Mar scored Tippy’s lone goal in the second half on an assist by Brian Ramirez.
Gage Miller scored twice for Wabash, which saw six different players score on the way to the win, including Roberto Ruiz, who also finished with two assists.
Volleyball
The Tippecanoe Valley volleyball team earned a four-game win at Winamac Tuesday, 25-11, 23-25, 25-17, 25-8.
Sophie Bussard put down 17 kills, and Emily Peterson tallied a prolific 33 assists. Hannah Jansma served seven aces to lead the Viking service attack, while Makenzie Woodcox finished with five block assists. Shayleigh Shriver and Marlea Myers led Valley’s defense with 11 digs apiece.
Tippy Valley now stands at an even 2-2.
The Vikings junior varsity also won their match, 25-18, 25-19.
Tennis
Valley tennis lost a 5-0 match with Wabash Tuesday.
Seth Hoffman split sets with Rob Ford at one singles but ultimately fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, while all other Vikings fell in straight sets.
Payton Mills and Dakota Parker were beaten by Matt Stein and Alex Driscoll at one doubles, 6-3, 6-2. Garrett Feldman fell to Asif Khan, 6-2, 6-2 at three singles. Eric Wright lost 6-0, 6-0 to Luke Mattern at two singles. Jeremy Landis and Connor Frentzel were defeated by Gage Ballard and Jonah Grance 6-1, 6-0 at two doubles.
Middle School Football
The Valley seventh grade football team beat Whitko 14-0. Marcus Bernicky had 13 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown, Noah Prater had 14 carries for 49 yards and an extra point conversion, and Hunter Craft added eight carries for 41 yards and a touchdown.
In the eighth grade game, Whitko edged Valley 14-8. Braden Shepherd had 12 carries for 40 yards and an Interception for a touchdown, Hunter Eherenman had six carries for 19 yards.
Middle School Cross Country
Tippecanoe Valley’s boys and girls teams competed at the North Miami Invite. Top runners for the Vikings were Ella Myers at 14:01, who took 14th place, and Nolan Cumberland at 12:16, who took 15th, in their respective races. Top 20s for the Vikings included Chesnee Miller (15, 14:02) and Corinna Stiles (18, 14:21) and Logan Hummitch (18, 12:34).
The Valley girls finished fourth as a team, the boys fifth.
