WINONA LAKE – Grace’s men’s and women’s golf team hosted a unique combined event against Ancilla College on Tuesday to start the season.
The coed duel match saw the Lancers and Lady Lancers team up against the Chargers for the battle of the US 30 Cup, which Grace won handily.
The first nine holes were traditional stroke play with each Grace’s men’s No. 1 pairing up with the women’s No. 1 against their counterparts from Ancilla. Lauren Keiser and Sydney Abbott led the Lady Lancers with identical scores of 38, and Chad Spencer paced the men’s team with a 39 at Stonehenge Golf Club.
Jacob Kennedy and Tristan Nienhuis each carded a 41 for the Lancers, and Anna Marshall (41) and Libby Tully (43) shot low for the women’s side.
The final nine holes were an alternate shot format, which Grace won 208-225.
The Denny Hepler-coached men’s team will kick off regular tournament play on Monday at the IWU Invitational. The women, coached by Denny Duncan, will be in action Friday with the IU East Invitational.
