Wawasee Sports Wrap: Aug. 19
Boys Soccer
Concord brought Wawasee back to Earth a little Saturday, pummeling the Warriors 9-0.
After a hot start to the season, the Warriors had no answers in its Northern Lakes Conference opener. Concord scored in the first five minutes of the match and turned the tables on a Wawasee team that scored 12 goals in its first two matches against Westview and South Bend Riley earlier in the week.
“The team struggled to fight back after going down early to a tough Concord team,” stated Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp. “We were not able to find much attack. This was the first big test for our team, stumbled quite a bit and hopefully we can take this as a learning opportunity for the next big games”
The Concord JV also shut out Wawasee in a 5-0 result.
Wawasee (2-1) looks to turn things around Monday against Central Noble, a home match that replaces Hamilton on the schedule.
Girls Soccer
Wawasee also struggled on the girls side on Saturday, falling 4-1 to Westview in greater Topeka.
Jenny Camarena potted the only Wawasee tally, assisted by Nadia Palacios.
The Lady Warriors from Syracuse fall to 1-2 overall and look to right the ship Tuesday at home against Manchester.
Volleyball
Wawasee hosted an early season JV Invite at its place Saturday.
The Lady Warriors finished third in the 12-team field, with Wabash defeating West Noble in the championship.
Wawasee defeated Lakeland 25-8, 25-13 and South Bend Washington 25-11, 25-9 then lost to West Noble 25-19, 21-25, 8-15. In the third-place match, the Lady Warriors topped Bethany Christian 25-11, 19-25, 15-10.
For the day, Bethany Flannery and Ashley Vazquez combined for 67 assists, Ava Rush and Molly Jones combined for 32 kills, Vazquez and Rush totaled 21 aces and Ella Williamson led the team with 34 digs.
