Triton Tennis: Trojans Finish First Week With Split
MISHAWAKA — Triton tennis finished 1-1 at the Mishawaka Marian tournament Saturday.
The Trojans lost 5-0 to host Marian but bounced back with a 5-0 sweep of Hoosier North Athletic Conference opponent LaVille.
In the win over LaVille, Jared Bules trumped Dan Clingman in a 12-game first set at two singles, 7-5, then shut him out 6-0 in the second set. Carter Kuntz put away Doug Cashen 6-1, 6-0 at one singles, and Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler swept Zach Rutherford and David Clayton 0-0 at one doubles. Gavin Greer won by forfeit at three singles, and Tyler Heckaman and Trevor Miller won their two doubles match by forfeit.
In the closest match of the Trojans’ loss to Marian, John Gardner extended three singles opponent Caleb Suarez to a tiebreak but ultimately fell in competitive straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5). Mosier and Butler won six games versus Michael Gray and Dominik Rafinski before falling 6-2, 6-4.
Bules fell 2-0 to Josh Bussan at two singles, and Kuntz lost 0-3 to Cam Rafinski at one singles. Heckaman and Miller lost 0-0 to Jamison Whitaker and Dustin Greer at two doubles.
The Trojans finished their first week of the season, 3-2.
