Triton Football: Trojans Impressive In 2017 Debut
BOURBON — Triton’s football team scored 10 touchdowns and rolled up 506 offensive yards while holding visiting South Newton to net 67 yards in a 70-0 pasting of the Rebels in Bourbon Friday night.
Quarterback Bo Snyder threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns, and the Trojans chewed up 318 yards on the ground en route to the season-opening win.
Max Slusser racked up 153 yards on just 14 carries and scored on a 12-yard run in the second quarter. Ethan Berry finished with three rushing touchdowns and 35 yards on the ground. Tye Orsund reeled in three catches for 91 yards and two scores, including an 8-yarder that put Triton on the scoreboard in the first period, one of three TDs by the Trojans in the opening stanza. Delano Shumpert hauled in an 87-yard touchdown catch to cap off the scoring in the quarter.
Triton’s offense was 5-for-6 in third down efficiency and converted on its only fourth down attempt, while the Trojan defense held South Newton 0-for-10 in third down conversion attempts for the night. Lee Mullett finished with five tackles, and Snyder recorded four on defense.
Triton opens Hoosier North Athletic Conference play with LaVille — a 3-0 winner over North Newton Friday — next week in Bourbon. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
