North Webster Council Brushes Up On Rules For Brush Pick Up
NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Town Council heard from Utilities Manager Mike Noe that brush pick up will continue with certain stipulations during the Tuesday, Aug. 15, meeting at the North Webster Community Center. These rules are less strict than those on the books. Street and water department employees will be up brush laid parallel to the curb on the edge of the property. Brush should not be place in the street or in a ditch.
In addition piles should be kept relatively small. Employees will spend 15-20 minutes on each property. If all the brush is not cleared, they will return another day to complete the job. The council agreed with Noe.
Council also approved a quote of $950 from Custom Fencing to replace the chain link fence on the south side of the town property that Lake View Pizza King leases. Noe and Police Chief Greg Smith will seek bids for a new diesel pick up truck for the utilities department and a new police SUV together. They will return to the council in September with bids.
The council agreed to refund an additional $1,000 sewer connection fee and keep the billing as one for the residence of Kent Lebherz, 841. E. Willis Drive. Lebherz explained that to expand the Webster Lake cottage and in town limits cottage, it was necessary to build a new garage with a bedroom and bath on the top. No new sewer connection was needed and the street was not torn up.
The old foundation on the cottage would not hold a second floor addition. He paid the sewer connection fee to speed along construction. The property has a convenant that prohibits anyone from renting out any part of the property. It can only be used by the owners. After seeking the advice of Jack Birch, town attorney, the council agreed to refund the fee and waive the second billing. Birch will review the ordinance as well.
The North Webster Park Board is seeking quotes on new roofing for the Pizza King building reported council member David Waliczek. Measurements have been taken.
Greg Church reported that there were 280 calls of service during July. The most were traffic related and citizen assists. Officers worked 656.25 hours, drove 3,625 miles and used 328.5 gallons of fuel. A new officer, Erick Sawyer, is being hired for the department. Police Clerk Mary Jo Lundy will retire in October and Officer Candace Smythe will fill her position.
Attending the meeting were Noe, Church, Birch, Lebhertz, Birch, Waliczek, Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce and council members Lisa Strombeck and Jon Sroufe. The next meeting will be held 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the North Webster Community Center Party Room, 301 N. Main St.
