Betty Louise Goodspeed
Betty Louise Goodspeed, 92, Syracuse, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse.
She passed away on what would have been her 75th wedding anniversary to her late husband, Vaughn. She was born on April 22, 1925 in Hartford City to Walter Madison and Gracie Pauline (Spaulding) Dutro.
She attended Roll High School in Roll and on Aug. 16, 1942 in Hartford City she married Vaughn Dale Goodspeed who preceded her on June 18, 1995. She grew up and lived in Hartford City until the mid-1960’s, and lived a few years in Portage before moving to Syracuse in 1972. Betty along with her husband were the owner and operators of V. Goodspeed, Inc. in Cromwell from 1974 – 1992.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Martha’s Circle in Cromwell, and the Wawasee Property Owners Association in Syracuse.
She is survived by her daughters: Barbara (Terry) Shields, Hartford City; Tammie (Guy) Hersey, Kimmell; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one step great grandson; and one great-great grandson; her daughter in law: Rhonda (Steve) Hurst, Carmel; her sister-in-law, Claretta Dutro, Hartford City.
She was preceded by her parents, her husband, her son: Richard Goodspeed; great granddaughter: Lauren Shields; sister: Carol Hawk; and brother: Francis Dutro.
Visitation will be from 2–5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 21 at the funeral home with Pastor Marilyn Gebert officiating. Committal services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, August in the Gardens of Memory Chapel, 10703 N. St. Rd. 3, Muncie.
