Warsaw Soccer: Steffensmeier Fills Net In Opening Win
FORT WAYNE – The Warsaw girls soccer team did not get off to the best start Monday evening.
The Tigers, though, after giving up a goal early were dominant the rest of the way in rolling to a victory in their season opener.
Abby Steffensmeier filled up the goal time and time again in pacing her team to an 8-3 win over host Carroll.
Steffensmeier finished the match with five goals as the Tigers gave new coach Jon Hoover a victory in his debut.
Delaney Taylor had a goal and dished out three assists in the dominating offensive effort by Warsaw. Anna Sullivan chipped in with a goal and an assist and Brenna Buhrt added a pair of assists for the winners.
The duo of Anna Grill and Dayle Harvey were cited for their play on the defensive side for the Tigers.
Carroll won the junior varsity match by a 7-0 final.
Warsaw (1-0) will take part in the South Bend St. Joseph Invitational on Friday night and Saturday.
