UPDATE: Female Runner Injured After Being Struck By Truck
WARSAW — At 4:48 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, a vehicle-pedestrian accident occurred near Rozella Road and Logan Street, behind Warsaw Community High School.
The driver of the truck was William C. Brinkerhuff, 47, South SR 15, Warsaw.Brinkerhuff was westbound on Rozella Road and momentarily looked at an eastbound vehicle. When he looked back on the road a female runner was on the paved surface, he veered hard to his left but was unable to avoid her.
A witness saw the female running along the white fog line of the roadway when the truck struck the runner. According to the witness, the runner deflected from the vehicle and was airborne before landing in the grass on the north side of the roadway.
The runner was identified as Heather M. Graham, 24, Laurelwood Drive, Warsaw. She was taken to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, for her injuries.
A portable breath test was administered at the scene and the driver tested negative for alcohol.
