Nappanee Man Leads Milford Police On High Speed Pursuit, Ends In Crash And Arrest Of Suspect
MILFORD — Milford Police responded to 310 Turkey Creek Drive, Milford, at approximately 7:52 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, regarding to persons at that location who may have been tampering with a crime scene. The mobile home at that location was destroyed in an early morning fire that day and has been determined to be suspicious.
While approaching the residence a male subject, later identified as John A. Slabaugh, 47 of Nappanee, fled from police on his 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Slabaugh led officer on a high speed pursuit southbound on Old Rd 15 and then southbound on SR 15 through Warsaw.
Slabaugh crashed his motorcycle when Detroit Street ended into a wooded area in Warsaw. While apprehending the suspect Milford Police Lt. Tim Miller suffered an injury to his left hand. Miller was treated and released from KCH. Milford Officer Brandon Shipp was riding with Miller during the pursuit and assisted in the apprehension.
Slabaugh was asked about his injuries and was checked out by EMS before being transported to the Kosciusko County Jail where he was booked on charges of: Resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, a class 6 felony; reckless driving a class A misdemeanor; and driving while suspended Prior a class A misdemeanor.
The Milford Police Department was assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Warsaw Police Department and Lutheran EMS.
