Silver Lake Approved For Sewer And Stormwater Grant
SILVER LAKE — Shannon McLeod, grant writer/administrator for Priority Project Resources, Inc., Greensburg, attended the Silver Lake town council meeting Wednesday, Aug. 9, to inform council members they have been approved for a $500,000 sewer/stormwater grant.
The town had asked OCRA to grant $500,000, with the town match being $452,000. Because the grant covers only part of the project, the town will still need to come up with a way to fund its portion of the expenses, which could be done through the State Revolving Fund.
The grant is for a project that includes force main improvements and new pumps at the wet well, plus four additional stormwater items for a total estimated project cost of $952,000.
McLeod discussed the time frame for the wastewater and storm drainage utility improvement project. The projected completion date is January 2019.
Council members reviewed and signed the contract for the project, with the understanding that amendments can be made to the project contract at a later date if necessary.
An ATV ordinance was discussed at the meeting, with Silver Lake Town Council President Chad Miner reading the ordinance rules and regulations to those in attendance. The ordinance information will be sent out for publication to local newspapers, and the ordinance will not go into effect until 30 days after the date of publication.
Silver Lake Street and Sewer Superintendent JT Prater informed council members that he had been contacted by a Silver Lake resident regarding a complaint about a culvert underneath the road, which she said is flooding her property.
“The best thing she can do is hook onto that culvert and run it across her property,” said council member Phil Shalley, “As the town, we cannot go onto her property and do it for her.”
Silver Lake Fire Chief John Conley informed council members that a hose and ladder testing was performed July 17. Two hose sections need replaced, and issues were discovered with a ladder that was purchased last year. The ladder is still under warranty and has been shipped back to the distributor for repair or replacement.
Silver Lake Town Marshal Jason McGlennen stated that theft has been an issue recently and advised that residents keep their homes and vehicles locked.
Joey McNeal, Silver Lake Water Department superintendent, suggested raising the rate for a water tap fee. The current fee is $300 and has been at that rate for years. McNeal said he compared rates with nearby towns, stating that Akron’s fee is $450, Claypool’s fee is $800 and the water tap fee for Warsaw/Winona is $1,500. Council members discussed rates as well as the cost of materials and labor for a water tap. A motion was made to increase the fee to $1,000, and the motion was approved.
