Amy Lucile Burley
Amy Lucile Burley, 92, North Manchester, and formerly of Winona Lake, went home to be with the Lord at 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017 at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1925 in Pandora, Ohio to Rhoda Emma (Neuenschwander) and Edward Joel Leightner. On July 30, 1950 she was married at Pandora Missionary Church in Pandora, Ohio to Robert Thomas Burley, who survives.
Amy was a 1943 graduate of Pandora High School in Pandora, Ohio. She then attended Fort Wayne Bible College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 59 years where she worked for 30 years at the Light & Life Bookshop and Herald Book Store both in Winona Lake. Amy was a member of Winona Lake Free Methodist Church and worked in children’s ministries for over 50 years. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Robert “Bob” Thomas Burley, North Manchester; daughter: Carol Simpson, Indianapolis; and her son: Thomas (wife Jennifer) Burley, Warsaw. She leaves behind three grandchildren: Jena (husband Chris) Fahlbush, Indianapolis; Marco Simpson, Indianapolis; Jillian Burley, Bloomington; and her brother: Paul Leightner, Brevard, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Visitation will be held from 10-1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Her funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Henry Church and Pastor Doug Balzar. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
