TinCaps Baseball: Baez Money In The Mitten
MIDLAND, Mich. – Michel Baez threw seven scoreless innings and the TinCaps beat the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers), 3-1, on Monday night at Dow Diamond. Fort Wayne has won four consecutive games, including the first three of this series.
The TinCaps (29-15, 55-59) jumped out to a quick lead 2-0 against Carlos Felix (L). In the first, designated hitter Jorge Oña laced an RBI double that scored second baseman Reinaldo Ilarraza from second base. In the second, center fielder Buddy Reed had an RBI single that plated right fielder Jack Suwinski, who had doubled.
That was more than enough run support for Baez (W). The 6-foot-8, 21-year-old right-hander from Cuba struck out nine and allowed just four singles and a walk.
Fort Wayne added an insurance run in the eighth as catcher A.J. Kennedy delivered a two-out, RBI single to score left fielder Nate Easley.
The Loons (20-24, 55-57) threatened in the ninth. Great Lakes scored a run and loaded the bases, but righty Joe Galindo came in and with one out induced a ground ball to end the game.
Lefty Will Headean pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth.
The TinCaps last swept a four-game road series at Lansing from Aug. 3-6, 2010.
