Lora N. ‘Pat’ Reed
Lora N. “Pat” Reed, 88, Columbia City, died at 6:07 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017 at her home.
She was born Nov. 28, 1928 in Wabash, a daughter of Howard and Marjorie (McClintock) Schlemmer. Her formative years were spent in Wabash. She graduated from Wabash High School in 1946. She attended Purdue University two years and received her bachelor in science degree from Manchester College in 1951. She later received her masters degree from St. Francis College.
On Nov. 24, 1949 she was united in marriage to Ronald W. Reed. They resided in Wabash until 1957 when they moved to Columbia City.
Pat started her teaching career in Somerset, Indiana for over two years and returned to teaching art in 1968at Marshall Middle School and Mary Raber School, retiring in 1992.
She was a former member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church where she co-lead Women’s Bible Study, Delta Theta Tau serving as former president and treasurer, Parliamentary Law & Literacy Council serving as former president, Whitley County Historical Society where she was a faithful volunteer at the Thomas R. Marshall Museum and Waugh Award Winner, People Preserving History, Columbia City and Whitley County Art Guilds, Colonel de la Balme DAR, Delta Kappa Gamma and Whitley County Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving relatives include her husband of over 67 years, Ron; three daughters, Jan Carol (Alan) Boggs of Columbia City, Cindy (Bill) Bauer of Carmel and Nancy (Greg) Johnson of Bryan, Ohio; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara (Harold) Clupper of Westchester, Penn; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A half brother, Jon Schlemmer, preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 North Forest Parkway with visitation after 2 at the church. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. Visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Preferred memorials are to Pat Reed Art Scholarship at Community Foundation of Whitley County or Thomas R. Marshall Museum payable to Whitley County Historical Society.
