Patsy ‘Pat’ J. Bailey
Patsy “Pat” J. Bailey, 86, passed away peacefully at 11:25 a.m. June 15, 2017 at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.
She was born Sept. 29, 1930 in Johnson City, Ill. to the late Lawrence and Thelma (Davis) Hampsey.
Having lost her mother at the mere age of 12, Pat “mothered” her siblings and did her best to keep the household running smoothly. She was willing to sacrifice her own education and was forced to quit school after graduating from 8th grade.
On Dec. 20, 1948, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Loren (Bailey), in Chicago, Ill. after walking in snow up to their knees for two blocks to the pastor’s home.
The happy newlyweds settled into their new life together. Pat loved being a wife and despite working full-time, she worked diligently to turn their little apartment into a home.
One of her greatest joys was becoming a mother to her four children: Larry, Pamela “Pam,” Sheree and Donna. She was thrilled with her beloved children and, in her eyes, the sun rose and set in them. Pat was a devout Christian who took her children to church faithfully. She lived for the Lord in her home as well as at church. She was a wonderful example to her children and to Loren who was eventually saved, due in part, to her prayers. She prayed for her family every day and her prayers live on though she has passed away from this life. Her children greatly appreciate all of the many sacrifices she made for them and will forever be indebted to her. It has been their honor and privilege to help care for her in her later years.
As time moved on, Pat was thrilled to be blessed with her nine grandchildren: Monika, Christian, Daniel, John, Jr., Jamie, Steven, Anna, Joanna, and Jesse. Pat was a “young” grandmother at heart and her grandchildren always enjoyed going to her house and entertained her with their antics. However, when it came to playing a game of Scrabble with her, she was a friend to none – usually winning every game. Two of her greatest pleasures in life were playing games and eating popcorn. Her grandchildren are all grown now and many are parents themselves. They are honored to pass on the legacy and memory of this wonderful “lady” to their children.
Pat will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but they are comforted in knowing that she is at “home” with her beloved Lord and Saviour, Jesus.
