WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after he strangled a female victim while drunk.
Toran Lee Savant, 32, 888 South Oak Brook Place, Warsaw, is being charged with strangulation, a level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On July 11, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a physical domestic call. The witness stated that Savant came into the residence drunk and agitated. He told the witness and another individual to leave because he was going to burn the house down.
As the witness began to leave, she heard the female victim scream from the back bedroom. The witness went to the bedroom and witnessed Savant on top of the victim with his hands around her neck, choking her. This is when she called 911.
The officer arrived and spoke with the victim. She advised that Savant was drunk and started going crazy. She was lying face down on the bed when Savant entered the room and placed her in a chokehold from behind. When Savant removed the chokehold she rolled over. That is when Savant started using his hands around her neck to choke her.
The victim stated she had difficulty breathing while Savant was choking her. The officer was able to observe visible red marks on the victim’s neck.
Savant was taken into custody on July 11 and given an initial bond of $5,250 at the Kosciusko County Jail. After the State of Indiana filed information establishing probable cause, Savant was arrested on July 13 and that bond was increased to $20,000 surety and $750 cash.
