Paul ‘Gene’ Berghorn
Paul “Gene” Berghorn, 86, passed away Nov. 28, 2016 in Conway, Ark.
He was born in Fort Wayne and was a graduate of South Side High School. He served our country in the U S Marine Corps. Gene was the manager of Electric Motors in Garrett, Indiana and the North Webster Lumber Company when he decided to start his own business, and opened the Palace of Sweets Ice Cream Shop in North Webster in 1971. He opened a second Palace of Sweets in Syracuse, followed by the Das Keller Tavern where he served the best pizza’s in town.
Gene was very active in the North Webster Lions Club and the Mermaid Festival Committee for many years and was a former Captain of the Dixie Paddle Boat on Webster Lake. Gene was also the owner of the Ye Olde Pub in North Webster until he decided to retire and move to Fairfield Bay Arkansas after the death of his wife Sheila.
Gene is survived by his children: David (Kathleen) Berghorn of Waterford, Mich.; Dana Berghorn of Plano, Texas; Cathi (Dan) Krejca of Aurora, Ill.; and Beverly (Bob) Jesch of Spencerville; sister: Jude (Jim) Preston; brother David (Mary) Berghorn; ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A graveside committal service will be held Saturday July 22 at 11 a.m. at the North Webster Cemetery- Mock Addition
