Faye Marie Meier
Faye Marie Meier, 81, Winona Lake, passed away at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Grace Village Health Care.
She was born on April 7, 1936 in Valparaiso, Indiana to Ocie Esther (Clark) and Arthur Holmgren. On Nov. 28, 1959 she was married to E. Jack Meier, who survives in Winona Lake, Indiana.
Faye was a 1955 graduate of La Crosse High School in La Crosse. She attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and received her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Decorating in 1959 and her Master’s Degree in Education in 1961. Faye was a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 27 years. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by her friends and family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, E. Jack Meier, Winona Lake; three brothers: John Holmgren, LaCrosse; Ray Holmgren, Portland, Ore.; and Dennis Holmgren, Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Faye’s journey with Jack started at a snow covered outing at Purdue University. By their senior year marriage was being discussed. Graduation was completed in June of 1959 and marriage was performed on November 28, 1959 in LaPorte, IN. Jack had a military assignment in early 1960 and Faye was asked and taught Elementary Education in her home town of LaCrosse, IN. Upon Jack’s return they relocated to Crawfordsville, IN. where Faye worked as an Interior Decorator then completed her advanced Education degree and taught in the Crawfordsville, IN. school system.
In 1970 they moved to Lancaster, Pa. where they lived the next ten years. Jack continued to be employed for R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co and Faye obtained a high school teaching assignment for the Lititz, PA. school system. During her tenure Faye was also the golf coach for several years as well as being Director of the senior proms.
Relocation was again finalized to Warsaw, IN. in 1980 as Jack continued with R. R. Donnelley & Sons Co. Faye was asked to join the Warsaw IN. school system as a high school teacher in 1981 where she taught seniors English for the next 14 years retiring in 1995. Jack had also retired so they moved again to Bowling Green, KY. in 1995 as Jack had joined another printing company. Faye also worked as a teacher for the local Bowling Green school system.
Faye and Jack relocated to Fishers, IN. in 2000 then decided to build a home in Winona Lake, IN. in 2005 where they resided until Faye joined Grace Village Long Term Care in November of 2010 until her passing.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 18 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. There will also be time for visiting prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19. Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin and Reverend Richard Anderson. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Indiana.
