Betty A. Thornton
Betty A. Thornton, 87, Mentone, and formerly of Rochester, passed at 11:25 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at her daughter’s residence in Mentone.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1930 in Warsaw to Virgil and Mabel Louise (Franks) Cook.
Her first marriage was to Paul Wiard. She then married on Sept. 26, 1964 to Elmer “Bud” Thornton, who passed on April 18, 2009.
She had been the manager of Four Seasons Estates, Rochester, for nearly 40 years.
She was a 1948 graduate of Warsaw High School. She enjoyed reading books and in earlier years sewing and traveling.
She is survived by two daughters: Janet and husband Phillip Schoonover, Wheaton, Ill: Joyce and husband Richard Harding, Mentone; a son: Bruce Wiard, Macy; a brother: Arden Cook, Warsaw; several grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Virgil and Louise Cook; a husband: Elmer “Bud” Thornton; a sister: Donna Bowers; a daughter: Beverly Hile; and a stepson: Clifford Thornton.
Service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 15 at King Memorial Home 101 North Tucker Street Mentone, officiated by Pastor Rick Johnson.
The place of burial will be Citizens Cemetery, Rochester.
Visitation Hours are from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
