Two Warsaw Firefighters Officially Sworn In At Board Of Works
WARSAW — Two Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory firefighters recently completed their probationary training. Quinten Stamper and Joel Shilling were officially sworn in during the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety meeting held today, July 7.
“It’s always a privilege to welcome new firefighters into the fold,” commented Mayor Joseph Thallemer. “I know you all have worked hard and will continue to work hard. Our fire services are second to none and we are certainly appreciative of that quality.”
The Warsaw Police Department was also present at the meeting to ask permission to apply for multiple grants. These grants included the 2018 DUI Task Force Grant, the 2018 Operation Pull Over Grant and the 2017 Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant application. The board approved applying to all three of these.
Along with these grants, a contract with Warsaw Lassus was presented for fuel in 2019. the contract locks in the 2019 unleaded fuel price at $1.92 for 75,000 gallons, which is the same price as the 2018 price. Having a locked in price helps with budgeting and allows the department to save money. The contract was approved.
In other news:
- The Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department presented six contracts for the Carnival and one contract for a superhero camp. All contracts were approved.
- Warsaw-Wayne Fire Department was approved to apply for grants to cover heavy rescue extrication equipment. The equipment was discussed at the last fire territory meeting.
- Two road closing requests were approved. The first request was to close the 200 block of West Market street on Sept. 16 and the second request was to close the 200 block of North Maple Street on Oct. 20.
- The Housing Authority presented a release of a mortgage and a claim match for an owner occupied rehab. Both matters were approved by the board.
- The board approved a contract for the wastewater department to host their 2017 training through Wastewater Solutions Inc.
- G & G Hauling was awarded the bid for Phase I of the Eisenhower Basin project.
- The planning department presented one contract amendment and two pay applications. All three were approved without any questions.
