Join The Fun At WACF’S Annual Bug Catch
SYRACUSE — All you have to do is look at their faces and see their enthusiasm to know this event is one that is anticipated each summer by children, their parents and grandparents. The event is the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation’s July Lake Talk and Eats Bug Catch.
This year the event takes place from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at the Levinson-Labrosse Lakes & Wetlands Education Center, 11586 N. SR 13, Syracuse.
The morning will kick off with a light breakfast before Nancy Brown, certified Hoosier Riverwatch trainer, leads kids, parents and grandparents in the adventure. A brief educational presentation will be at the pavilion before activities move down to the lake with nets, magnifying viewers and tubs of water to view the critters easier.
See how many different macro invertebrates can be found but be prepared to get into the water. Water shoes and shorts are highly recommended for adults. Children need water shoes and clothing that can get wet and perhaps a life jacket. Nets will be provided and assistance will be available to help identify the different critters.
This is great for kids of all ages.
Some of the critters viewed in the past include minnows, zebra mussels and a dragon fly larva with all its scales.
