Muncie Animal Shelter Over-Capacity, Offering $5 Adoptions
MUNCIE, Ind. — Because of “a dangerously high population of animals” at Muncie Animal Care and Services, the shelter will offer a $5 adoption special Friday, June 23, and Saturday, June 24.
Shelter hours for adoptions will be 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday and noon-3 p.m. Saturday.
The shelter at 901 W. Riggin Road is running over capacity according to animal control director Phil Peckinpaugh. So far during June, the shelter has accepted more than 300 animals.
“It’s been an unreal month,” Peckinpaugh told The Star Press. “We’re always going to do whatever is in the best interest of these animals but we’re having to turn away some surrendered pets because we don’t have any way to house them.”
All dogs and cats available for adoption are sterilized, current on age-appropriate vaccinations and microchipped.
