Crossroads League Honors Mahurin
INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League named Indiana Wesleyan’s Lane Mahurin as its 2016-2017 Male Student-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, selecting the NAIA Men’s Basketball First-Team All-American from among an outstanding group of nominees from around the league.
Mahurin was selected for the prestigious award after leading Indiana Wesleyan to a 29-8 overall mark and the third appearance in the NAIA National Championship Tournament Semifinals during his four-year career on the hardwood.
Along with receiving a third NAIA All-American honor following his final collegiate campaign in 2016-2017, Mahurin was selected as the Crossroads League Co-Player of the Year and named First-Team All-Crossroads League for his third All-CL honor. Mahurin was also recognized for his tremendous work in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Academic All-America honors during his senior campaign.
“Lane’s growth at Indiana Wesleyan far exceeded his All-American status and multiple national championships,” stated IWU head men’s basketball coach Greg Tonagel. “He will continue to be successful because he is a man who leverages his gifts and abilities for the benefit of others.”
Mahurin closed his career on the hardwood with 20.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor last season for the Wildcats. The outstanding numbers helped Mahurin close his career ranked No. 3 all-time at IWU with 2,288 career points and No. 4 with 902 career rebounds.
During his time in Marion, Mahurin helped Indiana Wesleyan to a pair of NAIA National Championships, an overall record of 126-22, a 59-13 mark in Crossroads League play and a 15-2 clip at the NAIA National Championships.
