Rad A. Drew To Host iPhone Photography Seminar As Part Of Chautauqua
SYRACUSE — Rad A. Drew, a noted photographer out of Bloomington, will host a two day seminar teaching participants how to take great photos with their iPhones. Drew has been involved in photography since he was a kid, studying journalism in high school and college. “Photography was a big part of that,” he said in a recent phone interview.
In 2010 he discovered the iPhone. “Here was this little device that fit in the palm of my hand,” he said. The phone allowed him to take photos and process them like he did in photoshop. “It was freeing,” he said.
The workshop will be two hours Thursday, July 6, where Drew will explain what participants can do with their phones. “With a few adjustments they can take a photo that is ‘ho hum’ and turn it into something ‘wow,” he explained.
Participants will have some homework to photograph the activities they are involved with that night. “I want them to try some things they haven’t before,” he explained.
The second half of the seminar will be two hours Friday, July 7, where participants can volunteer to have their photos reviewed. Drew will also teach how to process them.
Drew has been teaching this seminar since 2010 and understands participants come from all experience levels when it comes to photography. He is expecting the Chautauqua seminar to be more novices interested in learning how to compose a photo. “I think people are unaware of the power of their phone,” he said.
Participants of the iPhone Photography Seminar should have SnapSeed, a free comprehensive app that works on iPhone and Android phones downloaded onto their phone. Drew said that while there will be things Android users can glean, he tends to focus on the iPhone because there are more apps available for the the Apple device.
Another app Drew would like participants to have downloaded onto their phone is Vivid HDR which is very inexpensive. HDR can do darkroom magic by automatically adjust the light in a photo. Drew said Vivid HDR is his favorite HDR app.
Participants should come with their phone fully charged and be prepared to have fun and ask questions.
