Thomes Rhea White — UPDATED
Thomas Rhea “Tom” White, 79, Syracuse, passed away at 8:59 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at his home.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1937 in Auburn, Ky. to Mendel Douglas and Mattie (Penrod) White.
He graduated in 1956 from Kaiser High School in Dayton, Ohio and was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was raised in Dayton, Ohio, moved to Goshen, and then to Syracuse in 1978. He was married on Sept. 19, 1987 in Syracuse to Karen Sue (Plank) Noel Larimer. He retired from Johnson Controls in Goshen after 25 years and then he worked part time for Sweet Corn Charlie’s in Syracuse during the summer.
He was a member and Deacon of the North Webster Church of Brethren, American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse, and the V.F.W. in Syracuse. He was an avid University of Kentucky fan.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Susan Irene (Ja) Wicks, Elkhart; two step daughters: Tamara (Michael) Kiefer, New Palestine; Holli Fishburn, Greenwood; step-son: Michael (Chris) Noel Jr., Milford; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters: Delores “Dee” Szucs, Charleston, S.C.; Reba Janice (George) Brooks, Edgewater, Fla.; Kay (David) Anglemyer, Goshen; two brothers: Mendel “Butch” (Mary) White, Rock Hill S.C. and Greg (Donna) White, Pleasant Hill, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles White.
Visitation will be from 1–3 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Church of the Brethren, 7281 E 600 N, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the church with Pastor Bob Wyman of the church officiating. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd. 15, Warsaw. Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse is in charge of arrangements.
