WARSAW — Some planned business had to be delayed during this morning’s Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety meeting due to a serious accident on US 30.

Two Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory firefighters, Quinten Stamper and Joel Shilling, were scheduled to take the oath of office to move from probationary to full time status. Shilling was assisting at the accident scene along with Stamper’s brother. It was agreed that the two would take their oath of office during the July 7 meeting. Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer thanked the men for their work and stated the city was proud of them.

Aaron Hooks was present at the meeting representing Bethany Fellowship Church of Warsaw. The church is hosting its annual neighborhood cookout on July 23. The request was to close Pine Street from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The church closed the street last year and had a successful event.

“It was very helpful in terms of cars not coming through,” said Hooks. “It was frankly a lot safer.”

The board approved the request and reminded Hooks that the church’s neighbors needed to be notified of the closing.

A contract with G&G Hauling and Excavating for the Center Lake stormwater outfall construction in the amount of $119,529.38 was approved by the board. The contract will begin the second phase of construction at the Osborne stormwater pump. Work will be done to the outfall that dumps into the channel and the Center Lake dam.

• The Housing Authority Board was approved to release a mortgage for a roof through the Home of Your Own grant.
• A six-month contract renewal for Warsaw Wayne-Fire Territory’s volunteer firefighter agreement was approved. The contract was previously approved by the Warsaw Wayne-Fire Territory board.
• Stormwater fees for 616 Simmons St., Warsaw, were written off in to amount of $103.25. The house was recently sold and it was discovered that the homeowners were never billed by the city for the fees.
