Pierceton Officers Receive Body Cams
PIERCETON — After a few months of anticipation, the Pierceton Police Department has received their body cameras.
Town marshal Tim Sammons was present at the monthly council meeting, June 12, to show off the newly received cameras. The price, $1,214, was completely offset by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office. Sammons wanted to publicly thank prosecutor Dan Hampton and staff member Jody Hill for helping him with the ordering of the product.
Sammons is currently working on procedures for the camera usage and data storage. An IT employee with Lifeline will be helping Sammons set up a machine to store data within compliance. This cost will be offset by Lifeline.
The total project, between purchasing and setting up the cameras, comes at no cost to the town.
Sammons also brought forward before the board that the units bulletproof vests have expired. The bulletproof vest partnership grant will offset up to $1,200 from the cost of the vests. Full time officers in Indiana are required to wear body armor.
Sammons recommended that once the new body armor comes in, the old armor be donated to a K9 unit or for training.
The board approved Sammons to place the order for the bulletproof vests.
