Grimmett’s Four-Day Trial Scheduled For October
WARSAW — A trial has been scheduled for a Warsaw man accused of killing a toddler last November.
Christopher Grimmett’s four-day jury trial is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 24. Grimmett is ordered to personally appear at the jury trial, according to court documents.
The court also informed counsel at a status hearing held June 5, that a contested hearing will be scheduled for Grimmett’s Motion to Dismiss his counsel, attorney Jay Rigdon. The motion was filed May 25, based on Grimmett’s claims that Rigdon is “not fighting” for his case. The court is waiting to schedule the hearing until it receives forthcoming reports on Grimmett’s competency to stand trial.
The case stems from a missing child call that occurred on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016. Grimmett admitted to officers that while he had been babysitting his girlfriend’s daughter, Adalin, he had beat her to death with his hands. Adalin’s body had been found buried in the backyard of Grimmett’s brother’s residence.
An autopsy was conducted and a preliminary determination of the cause of death was determined to be blunt force traumatic injuries.
