Edward Carl Westwood
Lifetime Fulton County resident, Edward Carl “Ed” Westwood, 65, of Rochester, passed away at 3:32 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center of Fort Wayne.
On June 30, 1951, Ed was born in Rochester. He was the treasured son of Carl Thomas and Frances Ellen Barth Westwood. He grew up on the family farm near Leiters Ford. Ed enjoyed spending time with his grandparents who lived next door.
In First Presbyterian Church of Rochester, on Sept. 28, 1968, Ed married the love of his life, Mary Ruth Ringle. The Rev. Smiley Johnson officiated. They shared nearly 49 years of life’s adventures. From their union came three great children: Scott, Kimberly and Angela. Over the years two more generations have been added to the family tree. During the early years Ed and Mary raised their family on a farm near Kewanna. An accomplished craftsman, Ed built his family home also located in the Kewanna area.
An American outdoorsman, Ed loved to camp and fish. This allowed for many memories to be made with his family. At home in his workshop garage he was known as Mr. Fix-it. Friends and family would come by with projects for him to repair or weld to like new condition. Along with his grandson, Ed tinkered with his shiny black Suzuki Volusia. Keeping it in tune a making adjustments to maximize it’s performance. There was nothing like taking a ride and the feeling of freedom while catching the warm summer breeze. More recently, he spent numerous hours in the process of restoring his 1997 GMC Sonoma.
Ed is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary; two daughters: Kimberly Ann Westwood, Angela Marie Westwood; a son, Scott Alan Westwood and wife Christine, all of Rochester; five grandchildren: Thomas Westwood, Trisha Westwood, Alexander Carl Carpenter, Lukas Carpenter, Melissa Figueroa; three great grandchildren: Tania, Marlee Mae, Alivia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding Edward in death are his parents.
Dr. Cole Thomas Westwood Ph.D., a cherished nephew of Ed will officiate services.
