Flowers Vandalized, Replaced At Battell Park, Mishawaka
MISHAWAKA — The city parks department is once again looking for vandals. More than 250 annual flowers at the rock garden at Battell Park, which had been planted last week by a class from Beiger Elementary School, were pulled out of the ground and trampled sometime Tuesday or Wednesday, said parks Superintendent Phil Blasko.
He said staff are going through video footage from the park to see if they can identify the vandals. Anyone with information is asked to call the parks department at 574-258-1664 or Mishawaka police at 574-258-1678.
Blasko said a company contacted the department Friday and is donating flowers to replace all the ones that were lost.
Vandalism is an almost weekly issue in the parks. He said the city is also still looking for vandals who cut a hole in the Merrifield Pool liner in early May. The liner has since been patched, and the pool will open for the season on Monday. Blasko said the city plans to install security cameras at Merrifield this year.
