Wabash Baseball Sectional: Goff The Hero For Whitko
WABASH – Landen Goff was the hero for Whitko Saturday at the Class 2-A Wabash Baseball Sectional, doubling in Bailey Platt for the winning run in a 4-3 Wildcat victory over rival Rochester.
Goff’s walkoff hit in the home half of the eighth inning sends Whitko to the title game at Wabash, the Wildcats in search of its first-ever sectional title. The two Three Rivers Conference foes each scored three runs in its only run-scoring binges. Whitko got three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Alex Bechtold drawing a bases loaded walk and Drew Bradford doubling in two runs. Rochester responded with three in the top of the fifth to draw even on RBI singles from Zaine Young and Brady Perez.
Bradford was nearly unhittable for the Wildcats, working four innings of relief, giving up two hits and fanning three. Alex Robbins worked the first four innings, giving up two earned.
Carter Hooks took the loss for Rochester (8-18), going the distance before giving up the game winner in the eighth.
Goff, Platt, Bradford and Spencer Sroufe all had two hits for the Wildcats (20-9), which will meet Cass Monday at 6 p.m. for the championship. Cass (17-5) is seeking its sixth sectional title, last winning one in 2015. Cass made the championship by defeating Wabash 7-5.
