Concordia Edges Dwenger, Warriors Up Next
ANGOLA – Fort Wayne Concordia plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally past Fort Wayne Dwenger, 5-4, Saturday in the championship game of the Angola Softball Sectional.
Concord trailed 4-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth, Dwenger having scored two runs in the top of the sixth to give itself some breathing room.
The Cadets (19-7) used two RBIs each from Jayla Sauer and Madison Shannon. Libby Hetler, Kennedy Steele and Brooke Hockemeyer all had two hits and a run to send Concordia to the home game Tuesday against Wawasee (24-3) in the one-game regional. Concordia has won 13 of its last 14 games.
Dwenger, which won the sectional a year ago, finishes at 18-8.
The regional game will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday, the winner moving onto the Twin Lakes Semi-state to meet either South Bend St. Joe (24-4) or Northwestern (21-5) in the first of the two-game semi-state.
