Summer Classes And Events At The Y
WARSAW — Kosciusko Community YMCA will be starting summer classes on June 5. Classes will run through July 16. Classes for youth will include swim lessons, youth fitness and gymnastics classes for all ages. Registration for summer classes has started for everyone. In addition to classes, the Y is offering several events for all ages this summer, see the Welcome Center to sign up.
The Y will continue offering a Young Adult Bible Study for ages 18-35 that will discuss what God has to say to believers today. Mondays, June 5 through July 31 there will be an Adult 7-v-7 Soccer League. Games will start at 5:30, 6:30 or 7:30 p.m. and be played at Harrison Elementary. The Y will offer a continuation of their Adult Beginner Spanish class, with the third session starting on June 5, on Mondays, 6:30-8 p.m. Enjoy the rewards of life-long learning while gaining the skills to connect to Spanish-speaking members in our community. This is an introductory course in which participants will learn to listen to, speak, read and write entry-level Spanish, great for those wanting to learn conversational Spanish. Register by June 2. To support those in our community going through cancer and their caregivers, the Y is hosting “Kathy’s Cancer Conversations,” a volunteer-led cancer support group meeting on the second Monday of each month from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living inside the YMCA. On June 12 the group will hear from Deanna Sipe from Parkview Health about “Putting out the Flames of Inflammation.” On July 10, Rev. Corrine Hodges will lead the group in a conversation about how to “Calm Down our Minds” On August 14, Drumming will be offered as a way to elevate mood, decrease anxiety and boost the immune system.
The Y will also be starting another LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA class this fall. LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is an evidence-based program built on best practices for cancer survivor exercise. The goals of the program are to empower adult cancer survivors to improve functional capacity and to increase their quality of life through an organized program of fitness and strength offered in a supportive, small-group setting. The Y will be offering a new Adaptive Performing Arts Camp for free this summer June 19-23, 12-2 p.m. For anyone with a disability age 13 and up, the camp with be directed by the directors of the University of Saint Francis Jesters Program at the K21 Health Services Pavilion. Participants will have an opportunity to perform, dance, make music, move, create and have a lot of fun. Volunteers are needed to help make this camp a success. The YMCA has been partnering with Crosswinds Counseling to offer a seminar series titled “Maximizing Your Marriage”. Each seminar has been interactive and educational and included various assessments and exercises addressing the topic covered each month. June 21 will be the last seminar in the series and will address “Building Shared Life Vision.” Register online.

CPR classes will be offered to the community on July 22, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. If CPR certification is needed for a job or if someone wants to be more prepared to handle an emergency, they can sign up for this American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR class. The class will teach adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, but does not include first-aid. This three-hour class provides a two-year certification. In addition, this summer, the Kosciusko Community YMCA is offering 7 specialty camps for ages ranging from 3 to 17, focused on gymnastics, fitness, basketball, soccer, volleyball and golf.
