One Month Later, Baby Born At Zoo Thriving
OMAHA, NEB. — Her delivery was a surprise and newsworthy. Drea Hubbard gave her parents quite the shock when she decided to come into this world at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska.
“We didn’t think it was so big until they were like, ‘Oh, yeah. The news is going to be contacting you.’ And we were like, ‘What?!?'” said Justin Hubbard, Drea’s dad, while laughing.
It’s been nearly a month since this precious girl made a very big entrance into the world.
“‘Wait, you had your baby at the zoo?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah,'” said Kymica Hubbard, Drea’s mom.
Kymica has a delivery story unlike any other.
“I’m having contractions as I am in the zoo. They didn’t get bad until I got on the train,” she said.
She told her husband, who admits he thought she was overreacting.
“Calm down, relax. And she’s looking at me all evil,” Justin said.
Kymica got off the train. Her water broke and within two minutes…
“He pulls my shorts to the side and the head is already down. So he said push and she just fell into my arms. I’m looking around like, is she out? And he’s like, she’s here. So you’re standing the entire time? Yeah, I”m standing up having the baby!? she said.
And that is Drea’s story. Born three weeks early, she had to spend a few days in the NICU, but she is home, healthy and a little famous.
“A woman noticed Drea and said, ‘That’s the Zoo baby.’ I’m blessed to know the Zoo baby!” Justin said.
Drea’s parents say they did take her back to the zoo recently. One day, they will tell her the story behind her birth.
“Never in a million years did I think I was going to deliver a baby at the Zoo, and I’d be in front of a camera like, whoa, what happened? I’m still in shock!”
Drea’s parents says Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo did give them a free one-year membership. They plan on having Drea’s birthday party there every year.
