Wawasee Baseball: Warriors Win In Backyard Rivalry
SYRACUSE – Fairfield made it interesting, but Wawasee held on for a 10-8 non-conference baseball win Tuesday.
Fairfield plated six runs in the top of the seventh to close the gap, but couldn’t catch Wawasee, which built a 9-1 lead through five innings. Fairfield had Roger Berger drive in two with a double and Aaron Skibbe and Carter Miller both drive in runs in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate, but Josh Slabaugh got the last out to pop up to end the damage.
Jacob Garcia hit a two-run homer to lead the Warriors, which had Jeremiah Bess reach base three times and Gavin Barker drive in three runs and score a pair. Rylan Kuhn also reached base four times and score three runs.
Jake Crousore got his second win of the year despite a rocky appearance, working 6.1 innings of eight-hit, seven-run ball.
Wawasee moves to 10-14 on the year and close out its Northern Lakes Conference season Wednesday at Concord.
