TRC Golf: Julian On Top At Rozella
WARSAW – Jeremy Julian wasn’t doing anything special per his head coach, Darren Parker, but had a very special performance Saturday at the Three Rivers Conference Boys Golf Championships.
The Tippecanoe Valley senior posted the top round of 73 to lead the TRC tournament at Rozella Ford Golf Club, outshooting Maconaquah’s Jakob Taylor by two strokes. Northfield would squeak out its third straight team title, firing a 330 to beat Peru and Manchester by two strokes each.
“The key to Jeremy’s round was he didn’t overreact to a slow start,” Parker said. “He was four over after his first three holes, but he didn’t press too hard and he remained calm. He followed his start up by rolling in two birdies in a row, and then I could see it on his face that it was on. Every time I approached him on the course, he looked confident, but also like he was having fun.”
Julian was one of six golfers to shoot in the 70s, including Taylor (75), Peru’s Corbin Robison (77) and Taylor Garner (79), Northfield’s Kameron Cole (78) and Rochester’s Kalvary Lingenfelter (79).
“I don’t know that course management had anything to do with his results today,” stated Parker. “He was hitting the ball so well, I don’t remember seeing him ever have to manage a hole. He definitely has a lot of playing experience at Rozella, and he has shot some impressive scores there before, so there was definitely a comfort and confidence factor for him out there that helped him.
“Jeremy has always had the talent to play rounds like this, and today was all him. He hit every shot, and didn’t have to manage anything the way he and I have talked about. My focus with Jeremy has been when he doesn’t have his A game, how can he control things so that his bad rounds are still 78 instead of 86. That wasn’t the case today. He had everything going and made a lot of terrific shots.”
Northfield had All-TRC performances from Cole, Caleb Kroh with an 80 and Austin Trump at 81, along with a 91 from Isaac Gottschalk to wrap up its three-peat.
Valley had the 73 from Julian, a 94 from Cade Brouyette, 97 from John Young, 103 from Noah Hoffman and 112 from Chris Schipper to shoot a 367 and finish sixth in the team standings.
Whitko had Kaleb Busz fire an 87 to lead the Wildcats, followed by Cade Bechtold at 91, Tim Gensch at 92 and Cole Cmar at 104 to total a 374 and seventh place.
Final All-TRC votes went to Julian, Taylor, Kroh, Cole, Trump, Robison, Garner, Lingenfelter, Manchester’s Parker Wagoner and Nathan Self, and Rochester’s Killian Bailey and Jackson Sawyer.
