Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest For Dealing Meth
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested during a traffic stop after meth and other drugs were discovered in the vehicle.
Donald Craig Nelson, 36, 517 W. Pike Street, Warsaw, has been charged with dealing methamphetamine, a level 4 felony, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a narcotic drug, level 6 felonies, and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on April 26 an officer with the Warsaw Police Department observed a pickup truck exceeding the posted speed limit and conducted a traffic stop.
The affidavit states the officer identified Nelson and that he appeared very nervous and was visibly shaking. The officer used his canine partner to conduct an outer air search of the vehicle. The dog alerted to the odor of drugs.
The officer searched the vehicle and found digital scales, cellophane wrapper that contained 16 white pills later identified as methadone, a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance that field tested positive for 3.5 grams of meth and $400 cash. Under the driver seat the officer found a vanity mirror that contained a white residue, and near the console a ZTE cell phone. Several plastic baggies were also found.
According to the affidavit, officers searched Nelson and found a glass smoking device.
Nelson was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on $10,250 surety and cash bond.
