Warsaw Sports Wrap: May 8
Softball
One big inning.
That’s all it took for the Warsaw softball team to earn another Northern Lakes Conference win Monday night.
The host Tigers put up eight runs in the fifth frame to down Plymouth 11-5 in a league contest.
Warsaw led just 2-1 before tallying the eight spot to take a 10-1 lead. The Pilgrims managed to score four runs in the sixth, but that was not nearly enough.
Courtney Chookie had another big all-around performance to lead the way for the winners. The sophomore had four hits and drove in three runs at the dish. Chookie also went the distance in the circle with four strikeouts and three walks for the pitching win.
Izzy Dittmar, Sawyer Bradley and Lauren Shaffner each had two hits for the home team. Shaffner and Morgan Ashtari each ripped a double for the Tigers. Shaffner also drove in a pair of runs.
Warsaw outhit the Pilgrims 11-8 in the game.
Warsaw improves to 7-8 overall and moves to 6-4 in NLC play.
The Tigers play at NorthWood Wednesday and visit Northridge Friday in league contests.
Baseball
The Warsaw baseball team saved its best for last Monday evening.
The Tigers used a final inning rally to pick up a big 3-2 win over host Plymouth.
Warsaw plated all three of its runs in the seventh and final inning to edge the Pilgrims for a big Northern Lakes Conference victory.
Jordan Jones threw an outstanding game on the hill to earn the pitching win for Warsaw.
The trio of Jared Hawley, Alex Miller and Luke Baker led the offense for the Tigers.
Warsaw improves to 6-12 overall and 3-7 in NLC action.
The Warsaw junior varsity team continued to roll with a 15-5 win over Plymouth. Matt Shoemaker had three hits and two RBI to lead the way for the JV Tigers, who are now 12-5 overall and 9-0 in league play. The trio of Noah Burgh, Gage Lyon and Aric Krallman each had two hits and two RBI for the winners. Ian Glogovsky notched the pitching win.
Warsaw hosts NorthWood Wednesday and entertains Northridge Friday in NLC games.
