Wawasee Hosting Several Summer Camps
SYRACUSE – There will be plenty of opportunities for Wawasee area youth to get a taste of the Warrior Way. Several of the athletic programs at Wawasee will host summer camps, which begin in June.
• Girls basketball will have a camp May 30 through June 2 from 3:30-5 p.m. for girls in grades 2-4 and another for grades 5-8. The camp, led by members of the WHS girls basketball coaching staff, will focus on teaching the fundamentals, while also seeking to encourage the campers to enjoy and grow in the game of basketball.
The fee for the basketball camp is $40.
• Boys basketball will host a camp from June 5-8 at the high school. The camp is for kids in grades 2-3 (8-9:30 a.m.), 4-5 (9:45-11:15 a.m.) and 6-8 (11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) The camp will focus on instruction from Wawasee varsity head coach Jon Everingham and assistant coaches, fundamental development, competitions, games, overall skill development and program values.

• Volleyball will host a camp June 26-29 at the high school.The camp is for kids in grades 3-5 (11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and 6-9 (2-5 p.m.), and 10-12 (1-4 p.m.) as well as June 30 from 1-4 p.m. for grades 10-12. The camp is centered to be a fun and challenging camp experience where younger players learn and develop the techniques that are the focus of the high school program.
The fee is $45 for grades 3-5 and $60 for older campers, and the volleyball staff asks campers pre-register if possible. More information can be found for the camp by emailing head coach Kayla Riportella at [email protected] or [email protected]
• The Wawasee Gymnastics Club will host two classes, one June 12-16 and the second July 24-28. The June tumbling class will take place at the North Webster Community Center, with preschool from 9-9:45 a.m., beginner/advanced beginner 10-10:45 a.m. and intermediate/advanced from 11-11:45 a.m. The July equipment class will take place at Wawasee High School, with preschool from 5-6 p.m., beginner/advanced beginner 6:15-7:15 p.m. and intermediate/advanced from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
The fee for the gymnastics classes are $40, a $14 AAU membership is required.
The Club is also hosting two camps at WHS, a preschool/kindergarten (boys/girls 3-6 years old) from July 18-20 at 9:30-11:30 a.m. The cost is $35. A school age (girls grades 1-8) from July 10-14 at 5-8 p.m. The cost is $60.
Registration dates are Tuesday, May 30 at WHS from 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 31 at NWCC from 5:30-7 p.m., and also June 27 or 28, TBD time and location.

• The Wawasee soccer programs will host a joint camp for boys and girls entering grades 1-5 on July 10-13. Campers in grades 1-3 from 8-9:30 a.m. and 4-5 from 8-10 a.m. at the Wawasee practice fields next to the new Syracuse Elementary.
The fee is $25 for grades 1-3, $30 for grades 4-5.
There will also be a middle school soccer camp, which run eight days from June 5-15, Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Training sessions will run from 9-10:30 a.m. each day at the Wawasee High School soccer field.
The camp is designed to learn the game through training and skill development. Run by Wawasee High School varsity head coach Jordan Sharp, focus on drills, fitness, games and fundamentals will serve the fast-paced camp setting.
The fee is 100 per player, or $50 for one week. Campers are asked to bring cleats and gear, goalie gloves if preferred, proper footwear, shinguards, water and a ball if available. For more information, contact Sharp at [email protected]
