Boys Golf
Triton won its fourth invitational of the season Saturday with its triumph of the LaVille Invite.
The Trojans shot a 336 to best the field at Plymouth Rock, adding titles from Triton, Whitko and Marshall County tournaments.
Bryce Swihart and Beau Hepler led the Trojans with rounds of 83. Spencer Johnson shot an 84 and Isaac Wall had an 86 for the match scoring. Braden Kreft had the fifth score at 89.
Tippecanoe Valley had the medalist of the match in Cade Brouyette, who shot an 81 to lead the tournament. Valley as a team shot 367 to finish third behind Triton and Rochester’s 364.
Triton resumes play Monday at Caston.
Softball
The Lady Trojans picked up a sweep of West Central in a pair of Hoosier North Athletic Conference games played Saturday in Francesville.
A five-run seventh allowed Triton to claim a 13-8 win in game two, following a 9-2 win in game one.
Sydney Musilli and Hannah Woodard had RBI singles to open the seventh, then Nicole Sechrist provided the big blow with a three-run homer to open up the five-run cushion.
Courtney Jennings added a two-run homer for the Trojans, which cracked 19 hits in game two. Sechrist had four of them – a homer and three doubles – followed by three hits each from Jennings and Kate Gardner.
Jennings got the win in relief, allowing one earned run in two innings of work.
In game one, Triton jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings in a more manageable victory. Sechrist started her day with another homer and five RBIs, making for eight RBIs in the two games.
Woodard also homered and drove in two for the Trojans, which move to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the HNAC.
Triton hosts Culver on Monday.
