Warsaw Sports Wrap: May 5
Baseball
The Warsaw baseball team dropped a 3-0 final to host Goshen Friday night.
The Tigers managed just four hits in the Northern Lakes Conference loss to the RedHawks.
Alex Miller led the way for Warsaw with two hits. Luke Baker and Jared Hawley each had one hit for the Tigers.
Jordan Jones pitched six strong innings for Warsaw, but took the loss on the hill.
Joey Peebles was the winning pitcher for the RedHawks. Michael Pinarksi led the Goshen offense with three hits, including a home run and a double.
Warsaw drops to 5-12 overall and goes to 2-7 in league play. Goshen improves to 14-5 overall and moves to 6-3 in league action.
Warsaw won the junior varsity game 11-1. Gage Lyon homered, drove in three runs and scored three times for the Tigers. Matt Shoemaker had four hits and scored three runs and Joe Wilkinson had two hits and an RBI. Noah Burgh collected the pitching win, striking out seven in four innings. The Warsaw JV improves to 12-5 overall and goes to 9-0 in the NLC.
The Tigers play at Plymouth in another league contest Monday night.
Softball
The Warsaw softball team rode a great start to a 13-7 win over Goshen Friday night.
Jordan McClone slugged a three-run homer to highlight a five-run first frame as the Tigers rolled to the Northern Lakes Conference win.
Courtney Chookie did it with the bat and with her pitching arm to help pace Warsaw. The sophomore had three hits, including a pair of doubles, to lead the 11-hit attack for the winners. Chookie also got the pitching win, allowing just three earned runs with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Tigers scored five times in the first and then once in the second and three more times in the third. The hosts finished the night out with a four run fifth frame.
McClone had two hits for the Tigers, including her roundtripper.
Morgan Ashtari also went yard and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Saylor Bradley and Lauren Shaffner each had two RBI for Warsaw.
Jordan Nemeth led Goshen with three hits, including a double and a home run, and three RBI. The RedHawks had six errors in the contest.
Warsaw improves to 6-8 overall and moves to 5-4 in league play. Goshen falls to 9-8 overall and sits at 4-4 in the NLC.
Goshen edged Warsaw 2-1 in the junior varsity game.
The Tigers host Plymouth Monday night.
