Mentone Chamber Seeks Contestants For Miss Mentone
MENTONE — The Mentone Chamber of Commerce is looking for contestants to run for Miss Mentone. Details were discussed at the Mentone Town Council meeting Monday, May 1. Information received from Mentone Chamber board member Anna Stiles states that contestants must be between the age of 14-20 by May 21, 2017. Contestants must be single, childless and never married. Contestants must also be enrolled in school or home-schooled. Contestants are required to fill out an application. The winner will receive a crown, roses, sash and $300 cash. Runner up will receive $200 cash and third place will receive $100 cash. For more information, contact Anna Stiles at 765-553-1252.
Mentone town council member Tim Croy discussed issues the town has had with storm tile failures. Croy suggested charging a monthly fee to raise money to help with the expense of repairing the old, worn out tiles in town. After further discussion on who should pay and what amount, Croy made a motion to charge residents $2.00 per month and industrial $5.00 per month, with the first billing to begin in 2018. This motion was approved by board members. The fee will show on the monthly water bill.
The Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum will be having bingo Thursday, May 18, with proceeds to benefit the museum. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with early bird bingo starting at 5:30 p.m. and regular bingo at 6 p.m. The museum is located at 210 S. Oak Street, Mentone.
Town council members have been advised that Valley Sanitation will be raising their trash pickup rate to $35,422.00 per year. At this time, rates for homeowners will not be raised and will remain at $10 per month.

- The Memorial Day service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28, in the old cemetery located on South Morgan Street, Mentone.
