Martha Avo Burkhart — UPDATED
Martha Avo Burkhart, 87, Claypool, passed away at 10:28 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, in her residence. She was born Oct. 4, 1929 in Greenup County, Ky. to Charles and Beulah Jane (Sexton) Goble.
She was united in marriage to Chad Burkhart on March 24, 1950 in Warsaw. She was formerly employed by Jomac, Inc. and Uniroyal, Inc., both of Warsaw. She was active, along with her husband Chad in the establishment and operation of several community churches including the Gravel Road Church, Packerton Freewill Baptist, First Freewill Baptist and Victory Christian Center. Furthermore, they operated a community Food Bank from their Claypool home.
Survivors include her children: Larry Joe (spouse Gale) Burkhart of Warsaw; Brenda Kay (spouse Robert) Haywood of Claypool; Wayne (spouse Tina) Burkhart of Columbia City; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Burkhart of Winona Lake; and brother Eddie Goble of Waterloo. In addition, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband Chad, sons David and Taylor, one granddaughter Rachel along with sisters Delmon, Arie, Clara and Berdelle.
Visitation hours are scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 5 at First Freewill Baptist Church of Claypool. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. on Friday with Pastors Johnny Miller, Terry Bradford and David Cripe officiating. Private interment services will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with the arrangements.
