Wawasee earned its second win in the Northern Lakes Conference with a 7-4 win against Concord Monday night.
A four-run fourth inning helped the Warriors pull ahead for good. Trailing 4-2 in the fourth, Wawasee loaded the bases for Spencer Prescott, who drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Gavin Barker then had the big blast, a two-run double to put Wawasee up 5-4. Jeremiah Bess singled in another run in the inning, and Wawasee tacked on one more in the fifth when Jake Crousore scored on a wild pitch.
Barker, Rylan Kuhn and Jacob Garcia each had two hits to lead the Warriors, which move to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the NLC.
Josh Slabaugh moved to 2-3 on the hill with 4.1 innings of work, giving up just two hits and a walk in relief.
Jake Diver led Concord (4-10, 1-6 NLC) with a two-run homer in the third inning.
Wawasee will visit Warsaw Wednesday afternoon.
Softball
A defensive affair in Dunlap saw Wawasee move to 7-0 in the NLC with a 2-1 win at Concord.
A bases loaded walk by Graceanne Kerlin in the top of the fifth was the winner for the Lady Warriors. Madie Wilson drew a two-out walk in the first, followed by a double from Meghan Fretz to represent the first run. Fretz also had two walks in the contest.
Audrey D’Arcy had Concord’s lone RBI in the sixth, a single that drove in Allison Kelly. Otherwise, Fretz held Concord (5-9, 3-4 NLC) at bay, allowing just one other hit and two walks, striking out eight for the victory, her ninth win of the season.
Wawasee, which continues to set the school standard in this streak to start the NLC season, is 14-3 overall and will start round two of the NLC carousel Wednesday at home against Warsaw.
