Wawasee Tennis: Warriors Get Rare Win At Ridge
MIDDLEBURY – A furious rally helped Wawasee get a girls tennis win at Northridge Tuesday, winning 3-2.
The most furious of the rallies came from Wawasee’s No. 1 doubles team of Kabrea Rostochak and Kendra Doerr, which found itself down 5-2 in the second set and facing its first conference loss of the season. Instead, the duo rallied to take the set 7-5, and pulled out a 7-5 winner in the third set to upset Jordan Kauffman and Victoria Oakes, which had won the first set 7-5.
Wawasee claimed wins at No. 2 singles when Peyton Rookstool knocked off Kylee Bontrager 6-4, 6-4 and at No. 2 doubles with Courtney Larson and Taylor Mock’s 6-2, 6-4 win over Dominique Bate and Alysha Homewood.
Northridge earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, Taylor Sellers beating Meg Heinisch two and zero and Luisa Weyer beating Elizabeth Kleopfer four and one.
The win for Wawasee was the first over a Northridge team since 2005.
“Amazing come-from-behind win,” said Wawasee head coach Shane Staley. “Really proud of my girls for their fight and for securing their second conference win of the year.”
Wawasee won three of the 10 JV courts, highlighted by a doubles win from Molly Jones and Brittany Jackson.
Wawasee moves to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the NLC and a date with Warsaw Thursday afternoon in Syracuse.
