Warsaw Man Who Killed Teenager Charged With Drunk Driving
WARSAW — A Warsaw man who ran a red light on April 16 and killed 17-year-old Jack Burchett, Warsaw, is being charged with five felony counts for driving while intoxicated.
Chaise R. Belcher, 25, Warsaw, is being charged with count I causing death when operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a level 4 felony; count II causing death when operating a vehicle while intoxicated with an ACE of .08 or more, a level 4 felony; count III causing death when operating a vehicle while intoxicated with an ACE of .15 or more, a level 4 felony; two counts causing bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated, level 5 felonies; and one count driving while suspended, a level A misdemeanor.
Belcher was westbound on US 30 and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of US 30 and SR 5, Larwill. He collided with a vehicle driven by Phillip D. Caudill, 16, Warsaw, who was heading northbound on SR 5. Caudill and passenger Jacob Burchett, 18, Warsaw, both sustained major injuries and were transported to Parkview Regional.
A warrant has been issued for Belcher’s arrest and a $100,000 surety bond has been set.
