Warsaw Sports Wrap: April 20
Baseball
The bats came alive late as the Warsaw baseball team rallied to top Culver Academy by a 10-7 final.
The host Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning to post the comeback win.
Collin Marshall slugged a home run and Braxton Tennant had a double and drove in three runs to pace the offense for Warsaw.
Jared Hawley and Alex Miller each had a pair of hits for the winners.
Matt Shapiro went the distance on the hill for the pitching win. He fanned seven and walked two.
Warsaw, now 4-4, will host Plymouth for a Northern Lakes Conference game Friday.
Boys Track
It was another pair of wins in the Northern Lakes Conference for the Warsaw boys track team.
Kendal Miller and Zeb Hernandez each won a pair of events as the Tigers topped host Northridge 81.5-50.5 and Wawasee 111-21 in league action in Middleburg.
Miller won the 110 hurdles in 15.9 and took the 300 hurdles in 42.28 as Warsaw improved to 3-0 in conference action.
Hernandez claimed wins in both the 1,600 in a time of 4:38.08 and the 3,200 in 10:05.22 for the Tigers.
Also winning on the track for the Tigers were Rane Kilburn in the 100 (11.58), Tristan Larsh in the 200 (23.04) and the 4 X 100 relay team of Kilburn, Larsh, Will McGarvey and Alijah Wade (43.27).
The Tigers were strong in the field events as Kilburn won the long jump with a leap of 20-11 to lead the way. Joseph Harness cleared 6-0 to win the high jump and John Svinarich took first in the shot put with a throw of 46-6.5.
Wawasee had a pair of winners on the night. Luke Griner won the 800 for the Warriors and the 4 X 800 relay team of Luke Griner, Sam Griner, Spencer Hare and Michael Hammer also was victorious.
The Warriors, who are 0-4 in the NLC, will compete in the Goshen Relays on Saturday.
Warsaw will compete in the Southport Relays on Saturday.
