Zimmer Biomet Employee Caught Stealing Company iPhones

WARSAW — A Zimmer Biomet employee is facing charges after it was discovered he was stealing and reselling iPhones from the company.

Christopher Allen Landel, 25, who was booked under the address 1321 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, but whose court documents list 9562 CR 1, Edon, Ohio, as an address, is facing count I corrupt business influence, a level 5 felony, and count II theft, a level 6 felony.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on March 31 officers with the Warsaw Police Department spoke to an employee at Zimmer Biomet who advised that Landel had been stealing phones and selling them to Genesis Phone Repair. The location of the phone repair store was unspecified in the report.

The Zimmer Biomet employee advised she had conducted and recorded an interview with Landel where he admitted to taking between 20-30 company iPhones, fixed them and sold them to Genesis Phone Repair. According to court documents, Landel advised he had received a few thousand dollars in profit.

When officers read Landel his Miranda Rights he offered to turn in phones he had at his residence. He turned over six Zimmer Biomet iPhones. Landel refused to discuss anything more at that time without a lawyer.

The affidavit states that when officers received records from the cell phone repair store they found Landel had sold 93 phones over 29 transactions between June 1, 2016 and March 31 and received $16,900 for those sales. To date, 27 phones have been identified from their IMEI’s as Zimmer Biomet phones.

Landel was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail and held on $5,500 surety and cash bond.
